Experience a rare opportunity to see how contemporary art is really made.
Walla Walla-based sculptor and painter Squire Broel has arranged for you to enjoy a private visit to Walla Walla Foundry, where you’ll get a behind-the-scenes view of one of the world’s preeminent art production facilities. The Foundry has produced some of the largest and most complex contemporary bronze sculptures in the world, including works by artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Maya Lin, Urs Fischer, Deborah Butterfield, Jim Dine, and your very own artist-host, Squire Broel.
This guided tour will walk you through the casting process start to finish and will include some sneak peeks at current projects. Following your visit to the Foundry, you’ll visit Squire Broel’s loft studio in historic downtown Walla Walla where you’ll enjoy lunch paired with a selection of wines provided by Woodward Canyon Winery, where Rick and Darcey Small have been crafting premium world-class wines since 1981. A painting by Squire Broel adorns their 2000 Artist Series #9.
The following day, you and your guests will enjoy a very special wine tasting lunch alongside winemaker extraordinaire Todd Alexander and his wife, Carrie. One of a select few 100-point winemakers in Washington State, Alexander serves as winemaker of Force Majeure, BEATUS, Weathereye, and Holocene Wines. His passion lies in crafting terroir-driven wines that showcase the unique characteristics of specific sites through uncompromising, meticulous work in both the vineyard and winery.
