PARTY IN A BOX 4

Frank Lloyd Wright in Idaho: An Afternoon at Teater’s Knoll

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, this auction lot awards eight people a private tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Bliss, Idaho, known as Teater’s Knoll. Following a tour of the home and studio, guests will enjoy a boxed lunch on the terrace paired with gems from the SVMoA wine cellar. You’ll be surrounded by spectacular views from the property perched high above the Snake River. This piece of architectural history is the only structure in the state of Idaho designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Learn about the history of the house from owner Henry Whiting as you tour the 1,800-square-foot structure once described by William Allin Storrer (the first person to catalog all of Wright's buildings beginning in the 1970s) as "Wright's most elaborated one-room house."

Landscape painter Archie Teater commissioned Wright to design a studio for him in the mid-1950s, near the end of Wright’s career. The house had fallen into some disrepair until Whiting purchased it in the early ‘80s, taking it upon himself to restore the integrity of the building and becoming its steward over the next 30+ years. Wright has played a major force in Whiting’s life, influencing his aesthetic and philosophy. Wright’s influence led Whiting to hire Bart Prince, one of the foremost practitioners of organic architecture, to design his home in Greenhorn Gulch and to write two books on Wright and his work.

Since Whiting lives in the home, this lot offers a rare opportunity to explore it at leisure before enjoying lunch from beloved Ketchum eatery The Haven paired with a treasure trove of delicious wines!
