Clos Du Val’s Magnum Opus
Clos Du Val -- French for “small vineyard estate of a small valley” was founded in 1972 by John and Henrietta Goelet. The family-run winery’s story is rich in history, a richness you can experience yourself when sampling the 12 magnums of varying vintages offered in this generous lot. Tasked by the Goelet family in 1970 to find a vineyard anywhere in the world capable of producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, French-born winemaker Bernard Portet settled on what would become the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. Clos Du Val made a legendary debut of their Cabernet Sauvignon, submitting to be one of six Cabernets for the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris Tasting. Ten years later, Clos Du Val took first place in the Judgement of Paris rematch, a true honor for a California vineyard.
Today, Clos Du Val has 350 acres between the three of their estate vineyards in Stags Leap and Yountville. Drawing on the incredible terroir of their vineyards, Clos Du Val crafts wines of balance and complexity.
